Anne Arden McDonald – Arresting Black and White Self Portraits
Anne Arden McDonald is a visual artist living in Brooklyn. From age 15 to 30 she made photographic self-portraits by building installations in the landscape or in abandoned interiors and performing privately for her camera. The performances are part dance, part ritual and part daydream. In this series, Anne explores her relationship to the world around her. These black and white images reflect her interest in installation and performance, and she published a book of this work in 2004.
