Mario Martinez, also known as Mars-1, is an emerging painter and visual artist born in 1977 in Boulder, Colorado. Working on large-scale canvases, his unique style has been described as a sci-fi abstracted, urban-Gothic and quasi-organic form. He skilfully combines optical colour with geometric and organic shapes, layered to form unique patterns and textures. These conspicuous paintings explore possibilities of ethereal life through highly developed landscapes which repeat the microcosmic structures of biology and the anatomy of architecture. Mario finds his inspiration in graffiti, animation, ufology, mysteries of the universe and the abstract quality of existence.
