Rose Sanderson – Butterflies on Book Covers

Rose Sanderson - area galactina trigonalis

Rose Sanderson is a Winchester-born artist and illustrator creating the most exquisite and unique illustrations inspired by nature. She has always been intrigued and excited by insects because of their various forms and colors. “I am also interested in their place in the world; recycling nature; creating life from death,” she says. Rose’s delicate, yet expressive paintings of insects, birds and anatomy, aim to provoke in an understated way; producing pieces that are empathetic, fresh and intriguing. She tends to paint mainly in acrylics; they are very versatile, especially when mixed with other types of mediums. She chooses old book covers as a canvas because they suit her subject matter well, relating to the cycles within nature. The subject upon them is part of a narrative; again exploring life, death and existence.
